Around fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A senior political figure commented the incident rendered him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
